A tick is a spider-like arthropod parasite. Ticks can be found in the garden, in the fields while trailing and in the forests during walking. It feeds on the blood of animals and people. A tick can transmit bacteria, viruses and parasites while sucking blood. Borrelia burgdorferi, the cause of Lyme disease, is the most well-known and dangerous bacterium that may be present in a tick. A red ring around the bite area (Erythema migrans) may be one of the first symptoms of Lyme disease. This disease can eventually lead to serious health complaints.
